Fig. 1: Quite probably due to a failure of the cement connection due to the unilateral chewing pattern, two restored implants in the upper left jaw had broken. In addition, the most distal implant shows crater-like bone loss, i.e. a periimplantitis had started to destroy the bone.
Case 5
A 54 year old male patient without general diseases requested treatment in the upper jaw after two implants broke and the bridge in the left upper jaw was lost. The most distal implant in the upper jaw showed signs of periimplantitis.
Fig. 2: In the lower jaw, the existing teeth and implants received prosthetic treatment in another clinic before treatment of the upper left side. The distal implants in the lower right and left jaw already showed signs of periimplantitis.
In the upper jaw, two broken implants and the infected distal left implant were removed and five new Strategic Implant® were inserted. The prosthetic construction placed on these implants included one old implant in area 21.
Signs of periimplantitis surrounding nearly all implants were visible in the upper right jaw. Since these implants were stable, the patient did not wish to receive treatment (implant removal) during this early stage of the disease.
